Vietnamese  Visa

All foreigners interested in traveling to Vietnam need to have a Vietnamese entry visa. Exceptions are made for residents of countries that have bilateral agreements on visa exemption.

There are two ways to get a Visa:

1. Visa on arrival in Vietnam
   This visa one can get on entering the country, at the airport itself. The benefit is that one can save on time if one has a hectic business schedule to follow.
   However one must carry a letter of visa issued by the Vietnam immigration Department. This letter is accepted by airlines will ensure you receive a visa on arriving at the airport.

2. Visa from the embassy
   You collect your visa from the Vietnamese Embassy in your country. For ESL teachers it is better to opt for this visa. It will help with securing work permit for Vietnam. This too is issued by Vietnam Immigration department.

One can extend visa with the help of travel agent and first time renewal may cost around $25-$30, it includes handling fees and processing requires 30 working days.(Not advised)

You can extend for a maximum of 30 days.

A second extension of 10 days is possible at a cost of $35-40. This time you must show an air ticket.

ESL teachers must also provide a business letter from sponsors in Vietnam or current employer specifying the purpose and duration of visit.

Helpful tips:

• It is better to apply by post for visa and avoid long queues.

• Buy the tickets after obtaining visa

• Give sufficient time for visa processing at least three weeks.

• It is better to keep the post office tracking number. It is advisable not to call the embassy for tracking the visa application’s status.
