In Thailand what will strike you the most is the kindness and warmth that exude from the ever smiling and innately gracious people of this gorgeous land. Nature has been most generous to Thailand and its people. The land is fertile and bountiful and the sea surrounding it has the most amazing beaches, resulting in a thriving tourist industry. Visitors return to Thailand time and again to enjoy the most indolent holidays, lolling on the beaches or gorging on the Thai savories while strolling down the bustling streets of the metropolises.

Thailand also has a glorious past and the numerous monuments and pagodas speak of her architectural attainments.
Unlike all of its neighbors, the country was never a colony of any western power and has thus been able to retain the traditional way of life to a great extent. Thai had realized the importance of western education and had adapted certain western features specially the fashion sense of the young people. And Bangkok the capital has naturally developed into a very modern westernized city that has indigenous roots and is based on tradition.

Regions & Major Cities
Thailand supports a population of more than 60 million people. It has more than a 1,000 year old of history and has come under the influence of different races and cultures from China to India to Portugal , as consequence the important cities of the country have their own distinct culture. The landscape also changes from region to region.
On the central plains stands Bangkok with its palaces and monuments. The ancient capital of Ayuthaya is also here. This site is a history lovers delight. Pattaya is on the east of Bangkok. To the northeast is the plateau of Isan, Here you'll find many ancient remnants of the Khmer empire.

The centre of Thai culture is the north; it is where the first Thai kingdom of Yonok was established. Descendants of this kingdom founded the kingdom of Lanna in Chiang Mai which is a major tourist destination. Other popular cities in the north include Chiang Rai, the Golden Triangle and Mae Hong Son, for those who don’t want to follow the beaten track.
The south is where all the islands and beaches are located and they are most popular tourist spots specially Phuket and Samui.

TEFL International certificate course at Thailand is a great way to discover the country and explore job markets for future employment in ESL teaching arena.

Economy
The Thai economy expanded very rapidly during the 1980s and early 1990s, with the average annual GDP growth between 1990 and 1996 being 8.5%. However, things slowed dramatically in the summer of 2007 when the Asian currency crisis struck, causing the economy to drop by 11%.

In general the economy is booming once again and significant progress has been made in the foreign policy field, especially in relations with India and Malaysia, with whom co-operative agreements on bilateral mutual security have been signed.
The Tsunami of 2004 and the avian influenza did affect adversely the economy for a short spell but things are looking up again; despite the military coup in September 2006. In 2007 the rate of inflation was 2.2% and unemployment down to 1.4%.

People of Thailand
Thai people are extremely polite and amiable. They are deeply religious and hold the greatest regard for the King and Lord Buddha. It is considered unbecoming to meet Buddhist monks in scanty clothes. The main religion is Theravada Buddhism though there are some Muslims and Christian and Hindus as well.
Thai hold high regard for teachers and ESL teachers are expected to behave in appropriate manner and not offend Thai sensibilities.
