TESOL Certification Course in Corinth, Greece

Corinth is on the Peloponnese Peninsula and has many places of historical interest. After Athens it is the next most popular tourist destination. At the Peloponnese one can experience traditional Greek culture. The gateway to the Peloponnese, Corinth is only 50 miles from Athens and has lovely countryside and relics from the past to wander about and explore. Towering above is Acrocorinth, a fortress used by Turkish, Venetian and Byzantine forces during the Middle Ages. Besides the Acrocorinth there other places of interest as well.

The very agreeable Mediterranean climate of Corinth has rubbed off on its inhabitants as well. The people are as pleasing as the country and its climate. In here we find a wonderful blending in of past with the contemporary world of technology. Corinth, though rich in tradition has happily accepted the presence of upscale stores, trendy coffee shops and nightclubs in its midst.

It also encourages various commercial enterprises that ensure steady employment for the TEFL graduate.
Athens which is just 50 miles away from Corinth is connected by electric tram. Even if you don’t visit Athens you are sure to find enough to explore in Corinth.

The streets of Corinth reverberate with history. One can almost hear the footfall of the invading armies from Romans to Crusaders to Turks.

It was at Corinth that Apostle Paul propagated several of his discourses on the Christian thought to the citizens of Corinth. The reason he chose the city was because of its people who were essentially freed slaves of diverse origin sent by Caesar to people the new Corinth. They had no past or any rigid tradition and were eager to forge ahead and create their destiny. The discourses of Paul held great appeal for them. Hence the people are inherently liberal and hospitable.
Today the city is noted for its fine leatherwork, as well as an incredibly diverse cuisine that combines both European and Eastern ingredients and produces delectable dishes like ‘dolma’ ‘moussaka’ gyro sandwiches etc. A bad meal or a rude waiter is almost unheard of in Corinth!

At Corinth you have the fascinating Peloponnesian waters. Here snorkelers can frequently come across Roman coins, Grecian vases, and other relics. One may even stumble across the mythical head of the Gorgon that Perseus slew and hurled it into the bay. Or on a weekend sail to one of the many small islands that dot the coastline.

You can indulge in whatsoever takes your fancy in Corinth; of one thing you can be certain – you’ll never lack in good food or places to visit or in funds thanks to the TEFL International Certification Course.

Tourist attractions:
Corinth Canal
The Corinth Canal which had been cut through the isthmus. Even Periander had envisioned the canal, but lacking the technology, he settled for the marble tramway. Julius Caesar, dreamed of constructing the canal because it saved 200 miles of sailing around the Peloponnesus, but it was Nero who actually attempted it in 67 AD. But failed to complete. This engineering feat that began in 67 A.D. and was completed only in 1893. The six kilometer long canal was blasted straight through the Peloponnese to avoid having to go around it by boat.

Ancient Corinth - This ancient town, only 7 kilometers from Corinth, is the main attraction in the area. It offers several impressive sites, the most memorable being the Temple of Apollo from the 5th Century B.C. A great on-site museum displays wonderful statues and mosaics.
St. Paul’s Metropolitan Church - This is a must-see trip. St. Paul spoke to the Corinthians from the tribune here.
Acrocorinthos - The Byzantines, Venetians, Turks and Romans left these ruins. From the Temple of Aphrodite at the top of the 575 meter hill, you have spectacular views. The impressive walls date back to medieval times.
All that remains visible in Corinth today of the religio-political structure Paul confronted - the Emperor cult, the indigenous Greek gods, Eastern religions like Mithranism are a few columns of the temple of Apollo. Where better to contemplate the glories of a by-gone age and what might have been celebrated on the Acrocorinth long ago.

Transport and connectivity
It is easy to get to Corinth, which is only 90 minutes from Athens International Airport (E. Venizelos).
The train station on Demokratias has a busy schedule running in both directions.
Three different bus stations serve Corinth. For Athens, use station A, close to the train station.
Near the corner of Kolokotroni and Koliatsou you can hop a bus to Ancient Corinth.
Most other destinations leave from the station close to the corner of Koliatsou and Ermu.

Weather
The winter is milder in the Aegean and Ionian Islands compared to Northern and Eastern mainland Greece.

During the warm and dry period the weather is usually stable, the sky is clear, the sun is bright and there is generally no rainfall. There are, however, infrequent and brief intervals of rapid rain or thunderstorms chiefly over mainland areas.

The warmest period occurs during the last ten days of July and the first ten days of August, when the mean maximum temperature lies between 29.0 and 35.0 degrees Celsius.
During the warm period the high temperatures are tempered by fresh sea breezes in the coastal areas of the country and from the north winds, known as ‘Etesian’, blowing mainly in the Aegean.
