Prague is a city of unique and overwhelming beauty.
The city is a celebration of eloquent architecture. The Moldova
River cuts the city in two parts. The two districts : Stare
Mesto-Nove Mesto and Mala Strana (it has the castle), that are
largely independent, but yoked together by Charles Bridge. One
should visit it, at sunset.
The whole city is infused with romance and the atmosphere invites
self-indulgence, what with its ancient legends of supernatural
creatures like Golem made by Rabbi Low to defend the Hebraic
community. The Hebraic Quarter is a rarity.
Praga houses a collection of amazing buildings, monuments that are
centuries old. It is a treasure trove of various architectural
styles that spans from Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and
Baroque to Art Nouveau, Cubism and Deconstructionist. All forms
seem to blend in effortlessly. The Czech capital was fortunate
enough to have much of its buildings and structures unscathed by
Second World War.
Prague is a favorite holiday destination not simply for its
historical monuments and grand edifices but also because of its
people who are free-spirited and exceptionally creative. The city
with its lofty churches and many carvings is inspiring and one can
never tire of it. Prague for more than millennia has been the
cultural and political centre of the Czech Republic. It lies on the
bank of the River Vltava in central Bohemia and is a treasure house
of the Czech culture and architecture.
The Prague is speckled with beautiful with their intricately
designed Romanesque style buildings that were so popular in the
10th and 12th century Europe. It is branded a world heritage site
by UNESCO. Strolling down the old town square one can get a sense
of the various momentous events that had taken place there. The
city offers an interesting assortment of entertainments where
everyone has something to take delight in. From art to history,
from entertainment to partying everything is available at a price.

Tourist Attractions
Prague’s historical monuments are essentially in renaissance style
and even the communist regime with its stark utilitarian
architecture could hardly put a dent in the city’s grandeur. In
fact the austereness of these buildings only make the earlier
creations more alluring and magnificent.
It is a huge place with a lot to see and one can’t cover it all in
a day. The most obvious sites to be visited are the Old Town
Square, Lesser Town Square Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and
Petrin Hill.
The Charles Bridge has interesting statues placed on either side
and is mostly teeming with visitors and vendors. Its lively
atmosphere is heady and the carvings lovely.
The picturesque Prague castle seems to have jumped out of a
fairytale book. Even at the risk of sounding clichéd one has to
admit the castle is “Picture Perfect!”
The old town square is where you find beautiful instances of Gothic
and Neo-Renaissance architecture. There’s the Gothic church
standing in close proximity with the Classical Cathedral that has a
more modern appearance. The astronomical clock is located here and
it’s an all time favorite with the tourists who love to see the
puppets that pop out with every time the clock chimes.
If you wish to dine drink and enjoy sightseeing you need to move
out of the city centre to Zizkov and Vinohrady quarters.
Another interesting place to visit is the zoo in Troja which is
gaining in popularity with every passing year.
If the daytime is spent sightseeing the evening and the night can
be spent at soirees and operas or at the clubs and bars partying
and jamming till dawn.
Prague is simply – Awesome! Can you imagine the rollicking time
you’ll have in this city during the weekends of the 4 weeks onsite
TEFL international course?
Evening and Nightlife
The nightlife in Prague has two aspects to it – the somber and
elegantly classical and the excitingly contemporary. It’s for you
to decide whether it’s the opera you wish to attend or the poetry
reading sessions or to jive and gyrate at the nightclubs and
discos.
If you are so inclined you may do both. Attend a poetry reading
session in the evening and move onto something more physically
challenging at the dance floor still later in the evening or seek
your muse as you nurse the world’s best beer and wine at one the
many bars and clubs that line the lanes of Prague.
Prague is full of pubs, bars, and clubs and compared to the rest of
Europe the prices are competitive.
Prague city stays wake all night long since most of the clubs do
not close before 5AM and then one can carry on with partying at the
"after party" clubs which run till late afternoon. Check out Golem
club, millennium casino U Bulino, it’s unlikely that you’ll regret
the decision!
Transport
Prague’s public transportation system is perhaps the best in
Europe. Almost everyone in Prague use the metro, trams and buses
that traverse the city and suburbs.
The metro covers distance faster and makes travel easy and
comfortable.
For moving around town it’s better to use public transport as
traffic snarls are frequent and taxi drivers may not be the
friendliest of people.
Weather
Prague has a temperate climate with pleasant comfortable summers
and wet, chilly, winters. July and August are dry summer months and
not a bad season for a trip to Prague.
Mid May to mid June which is late spring and early fall that is
between September and October, are the best times to visit the
city.
