TESOL Course Prague Program
TESOL Certification Course in Prague, Czech Republic
An average program day
From Monday to Wednesday (Weeks 1 and 2) and Monday to Tuesday (Weeks 3 and 4), there are input sessions from 10:00am to 5:00pm, where trainees learn the methodology of teaching language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and grammar, the practicalities of managing classrooms of different sizes (individuals, groups) and types (adults, children, business groups etc), and receive instruction in a foreign language. The course has a substantial practical component, such that methodology inputs are accompanied by participation in a mock-lesson. In this way, trainees are able to gain a feeling from a student’s perspective for how the different tools and techniques work.
In the morning on Thursdays and Fridays (and Wednesdays in Weeks 3 and 4), trainees prepare for their lessons with real language learners at Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced levels, receiving input and advice as necessary from the trainers. In the afternoons, trainees teach their lessons accompanied by peer and trainer observation and detailed constructive feedback. Over the course of four weeks, each trainee will teach up to 10 hours of real lessons. Teaching begins in Week 1 to help trainees practice and develop teaching skills to a reasonable professional standard as well as gain a feeling of confidence over the course of a month. In this way, trainees leave the course ready to teach in a variety of classroom settings.
The course is intensive, and there are several written assignments to do in addition to teaching practices. However, with sensible pacing, all is achieved comfortably and there is still time to explore beautiful Prague – very handy as the school is located literally meters from the Old Town Square and near the famous Charles Bridge and Prague Castle!
Average Students in the Program
On average we have about 12 trainees enrolled in each course, although some months we have more; some months the numbers are lower. Most of our participants are from English speaking countries such as America, The United Kingdom, Canada or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.
Teaching Practice
We use local Czech students for the trainees’ teaching practice. All students are very keen and enthusiastic, a great number of them return year after year, course after course.
