Living Czech Republic

TESOL Certification Course in Prague, Czech Republic

In spite of being a nation with an upward economy, the cost of living in Czech Republic is surprisingly affordable with the exception of Prague. In the capital a single occupancy apartment doesn’t come for less than 300 euro.

If you live outside Prague you can live comfortably on your ESL teacher’s pay check and afford to scour the charming sites of wonderful Prague.

The lesser known towns and even in the country side has cable connection and internet, so you’ll always remain connected with your ‘circle’.

A little judicious spending with more eating at home you will manage a delightful stay in Czech Republic.

What to expect:

  • Since the accommodation is not provided by schools look for it on the internet before you accept a position in Czech Republic. Try to get one close to the work place.

  • Use public transport as it is cheap and convenient. There is great bus, tram and subway service and the monthly ticket is USD 22.00. One ride costs about 80 cents.

  • When touring historical sites stay away from crowds and beware of pickpockets. In bus and subways also exercise caution.

  • Czechs perhaps are not friendly like the Spaniards or Italians neither are they aggressive and threatening. They are proud of their culture and like it when foreigners endeavor to communicate in Czech. Try and use a Czech phrase book.

  • The younger Czechs on the other hand are always eager to try out their English, however poor their English might be converse only in English.

  • If you are pathetic in the kitchen you should try out the local delicacies which are wholesome and filling and pocket pinch is not severe. You can have a beef goulash with dumplings for USD 5.00 and wash it down with a bottle of excellent local beer for USD 1.00.

  • Spectacular scenery and equally amazing manmade structures make Prague and the Czech Republic a visitor’s delight. There are endless amusements on hand both day and night. One can enjoy an evening at a musical soiree or sway with the electrifying music of the local band while guzzling beer.

Entertainment:

  • Czech Republic has a lot more to offer to tourists than historical monuments and castles and grand edifices.

  • Brno, CZ's second-largest city is the capital of South Moravia, and it leads one to the chateaus, standing against the undulating hills, the endless hiking trails and dark caverns.

  • For beer lovers there is the "real" Pilsener brewery in Plzen, rock climbers will utterly enjoy themselves at Srbsko.

  • One will derive great joy from taking a trip to the many beautiful historical cities and towns, located in Southern Bohemia.

Weather

  • The climate of Czech Republic is mild with warm, at times moist or humid, summers and chilly winters.

  • In winter, the temperature hovers around the freezing point and goes below zero at night.

  • January and February are the coldest months. Best time to visit is spring and summer and it usually rains from May to August.
