have previous experience receive a higher pay, but most schools are
not keen to pay the higher salary.
Work hours are around 30 hours teaching a week. The more hours you
work the more are your earnings.
The class strength is normally between 20 – 30 students. Keep in
mind that your Czech colleagues too, who have bookish knowledge of
English would try to brush up on their speaking skills by engaging
you in discussions on the subject.
A small percentage of the salary may be deducted for insurance and
the amount may get rounded off at 800 euro net.
However, there are big schools that require experienced teachers
and pay well, so you should ask about the hourly rate before you
agree to anything.
In Czech Republic the accommodation for teachers is not always
provided by the school.
Prague is costly stay in other cities is considerably cheaper. Use
the internet for finding reasonable accommodation. You can always

Expected qualification of teachers is a bachelor degree in any
discipline along with a TESOL/TEFL Certificates.
Some schools require native speakers, preferably British or Irish,
American or Australian citizens. However, teachers from other
ethnic groups may find teaching position in the country provided
they have a bachelor degree in English.
It would be wise to have a phrase book on Czech language as the
locals admire people who try to converse in the local language.
The above conditions are for those who wish to work in an
established private school.
Those who wish to freelance and teach English at home, and without
a proper permit would be doing so at their own risk. To teach at
home legally, you should get a license for home teaching that is
issued by the Ministry of Education
You can teach 2-4 students at home or at a student's home and the
fees start from 10 euro per hour.
Remember most Czechs have learnt English strictly by grammar and
translation method and are prone to question the teacher, so be
thorough with your English Grammar. An area which TEFL
