TEFL Certification Course in China
China has opened its doors to the world. Thanks to a liberal
profit oriented economic policy it has become accessible and its
products are flooding the world markets, helping it to rapidly grow
into an economic super power. The Beijing Olympics 2008 showcased
the achievements of Modern China. It dazzled the world with its
spectacular extravaganza.
The official language is Mandarin Chinese. In China, the family
name is always mentioned first. Punctuality is appreciated and
preferred clothing is conservative casual wear. It’s better to
avoid revealing clothes. It is better not to express any political
or religious opinions. The country officially does not profess to
any religion but in places Buddhism and Taoism are practiced.
While traveling in China keep in mind that outside main centers,
all water used for drinking, brushing teeth or freezing should be
first boiled or sterilized. Meat and fish should be well cooked.
You are recommended to take vaccinations against tuberculosis and
Japanese encephalitis. Medical costs are low and hospitals are of
international standard but many medicines common in western
countries are not available in China.
China has a good range of hotels from budget to luxury. Usually
hotels are reasonable but the ones in Major cities are expensive.
Chinese food is reputed worldwide. The westerners prefer the
Cantonese style to the Haka, or the Schezwan style. China offers a
variety of entertainments; from classical Chinese operas, to State
circus, ballet and theater. Another popular form of entertainment
is the Karaoke. Beijing and Shanghai have major departmental stores
and tourists can go on a shopping spree. The government has set up
Friendship Stores that sell commodities at a fixed price.
There is great demand for ESL teachers in Modern China. Over the
last few years, private language institutes and companies are
flourishing in China. It offers great placement opportunities to
ESL teachers. One will never have a dull moment in this country
there is so much to explore and experience.
The pay packet of the English teachers in China is good and is
sufficient for comfortable living.
Most schools provide the teachers with accommodation facility. The
corporate offices and language institutes pay better than the
regular schools. Teaching English in China is a wonderful way to
explore and marvel at the wonders of this oriental land of many
inventions and at the same time earn enough to travel and also to
save.
Schools usually advise their teachers to wear, smart casual clothes
in class. Generally speaking, the strict dress codes that are
enforced in other countries do not apply to China A male teacher
should dress in smart casual trousers, a long or short sleeved
collared shirt (depending on the time of the year) and polished
leather shoes. A tie and coat or jacket, is not essential. In
winter it is a necessity, due to the cold.
For a woman, it is either slacks or a long skirt and a tidy blouse
with covered or uncovered shoulders. The emphasis is on projecting
a clean and presentable appearance at all times.
Foreign teachers in China are immensely respected. Teachers must
keep this in mind and dress accordingly. Outside the school,
teachers can wear what they please but without offending Chinese
tradition and culture.
Entertainment:
Modern China’s cities are as urban and upscale as their western
counterparts. They offer all types of modern entertainment from
nightlife, to trekking and adventure sports.
The country has amazingly diverse terrain and its natural beauty is
as splendid as its abundant natural resources. The Great Wall and
Tibet’s Qomolangma Nature Reserve around Everest are UNESCO World
Heritage Sites and extremely beautiful.
A visit to the subtropical white beaches on Hainan, situated in
China’s south, or a trek to the ski slopes in the north will hold
the traveler spell bound.
Every tourist must pay a visit to Beijing’s impressive monument –
the Forbidden City or the Palace Museum and the world’s largest
square – Tiananmen Square and the 15th century temple of Heaven.
There much to see and cherish in China, and one trip is not enough
to fathom the mysterious land of Mythical dragons and life size
clay soldiers.
