FChina is a magnificent country with many tourist attractions. The ESL job market of China is big and the demand for teacher’s very high.
English is the language for commerce and with exposure to the West and other developing nations China feels the need to rapidly spread English among its population.
Hence in China, ESL teachers are not just hired by the regular
schools, but many language institutes as well as corporate houses
also hire teachers regularly.
Relevant Information
In China the TEFL trained teachers are given diverse teaching
assignments ranging from teaching kindergarten, primary, or
secondary level in schools to under graduates in college and
university level, from language training schools to corporate
sector people all are eager to improve their communicative English
skills.
To teach in China you need TEFL certification and graduation
degree.
The term of employment is 6 months. Contract can be extended with
mutual agreement.
You may seek placement in any of the many elementary, middle, high
schools, to colleges, Universities to Company staffs keen to
improve their communicative English skills.
After completing the 6 months term, Employee may request for
renewal of contract subject to the approval of the Employer,
Employees are expected to work eight hours per day for five days a
week from Monday to Friday Saturdays, Sundays are off.
Working Hours in most private and public institutions are usually
from 8.30 am until lunch (around 11.30 am) and then back again from
14.30 to 17.00. You’ll find your Chinese colleagues amiable and
helpful.
Employee’s regular teaching hours shall not exceed sixteen-twenty
four hours per week. Employees may be asked to teach extra hours.
They may receive extra payment for extra hours.
During school vacations, teachers may be asked to participate in
special classes or English day camps.
Typically teachers are offered by schools a reimbursement pay
package ranging from 400-200,000 RMB.
Most of the schools will bear the medical expenses of an employee
who is sick. This amount usually is not deducted from the salary.
When teaching in China or any other foreign countries, it is always
recommended to get Expat Medical Coverage.
Standard contracts offer one to two weeks of paid vacation per
year. The vacation period falls usually between semesters.
ESL teachers can also opt to give after-schools English tuitions to
a group of Chinese students once/twice per week, either
individually or in group with other foreign teacher. They can split
the responsibility with other foreign teachers. If you are
interested in earning extra money we will arrange that for you. The
teachers should be professional in their attitude.
The schools usually provide the flight fare to China via Thailand,
but only up to 4000 RMB limit.
A one year contract would fetch you a round-trip airfare. The
flight must be via Bangkok to China’s International airport.
Dress code in China
Schools usually advise their teachers to wear, smart casual clothes
in class. Generally speaking, the strict dress codes that are
enforced in other countries do not apply to China.
However the teachers should never be indecent in their clothing as
they are highly regarded in China.
