Beijing has a continental monsoon climate common to the temperate

winds blow out of Siberia and Mongolia in the northwest
The climate varies according to the season with autumn being the
most pleasant time to visit. Spring is usually dry but very windy.
Summer is rainy and hot with temperatures soaring above 38 degree
Celsius; in summer, warm, moist air currents from the southeast
make the city warm and sultry.

Tourist Attractions
The most important landmarks in Beijing are – The Great wall of
China, the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with Summer
Palace.
The Forbidden City is an impressive complex with two main
divisions: the outer palace and the inner place. You need to spend
at least a day to explore the complex, with is many palaces, halls
of harmony, like the Zhonghedian, the Baohedian and the Jiaotaidan.
Tiananmen Square to most people bring images of the peaceful
demonstrations for democracy held on this square in 1989 that ended
violently snuffing out many young lives.
It is also the square, where Mao announced the creation of the
People's Republic of China, and it means the "Gate of Heavenly
Peace." Several impressive gates, such as the Tuenanmen Gate, the
Qianmen Gate and the Xuanwumen Gate, surround the square. This
where the Chairman Mao Memorial is placed.
The Great Wall is one of the most inspiring manmade structures in
the world. It winds across many Chinese valleys, desert areas and
over mountains. The defensive wall was constructed in 5th century
B.C and later rulers lengthened it.
Lama Temple (Lamasery of Harmony and Peace), one of the well
-preserved temples in Beijing, is also of tourist interest. It was
built in 1694 where the heir of the Kangxi Emperor resided. It was
converted into a lamasery in 1744. A small group of monks still
live there.
Other than these places there are many gardens and museums to visit
in Beijing. One should visit the Ming tombs and the Museum of
Chinese revolution among other things.
Transport:
Beijing has various modes of Transportation.
Cycles are very popular and one can rent a bike by paying a nominal
sum as deposit.
Pedi cabs are also a convenient way to travel around.
Bus service is good and frequent and one can zip around in the
comfort of and A.C. bus. They ply from 5.30 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.
Subway in Beijing is clean and a relatively comfortable mode of
transport. The trains shuttle every 4 – 5 minutes and run from 5.00
in the morning to 10 in the night.
Of course the city has regular taxi service but it may prove to be
a little expensive.
In Beijing there are places where you can travel by water ways. It
is an interesting experience and recommended that you try it once
at least.
Nightlife
Nightlife is a new phenomenon in Beijing; even 20 years ago it was
unheard of. At present it is commonplace and the young people
frequent movie halls and theatres, nightclubs and dance halls,
Karaoke joints and bars.
In Beijing all good hotels offer in house entertainment but
nightlife venues are mostly in the city center. You can spend the
evening watching classical Peking Opera, acrobatics, dramas, folk
songs and ballads, dance performances, or attend a music concert,
or shake a leg at a roadside disco. Remember it’s safe to visit to
places that have been recommended by other tourists or Chinese
friends. Recently a host of foreign theme pubs, exotic bars and
karaoke clubs have cropped up. They are the haunt of foreign
residents, expats, tourists and young Chinese. The admission fee is
ranges betwen 50-80 yuan.
