There is a big requirement of English teachers due to this growing demand of English as France has embarked into the competition in the global market. Though there are a number of ESL jobs in France those are not very much advertised like the other European countries, Italy, Spain and Greece. The demand of English teachers in France is limited mainly to the big cities.

France is one of the most developed nations in Europe and growing even more quickly especially economically. In France, most of the people do not speak English as French is the official language.

ESL jobs in France are quiet high paying and the freelance teachers may earn up to 18 to 15 Euros per hour. The usual contracts are for ten months and there are five weeks of holidays in a year. The English teachers in France will not only have to teach general English but the teachers will also have to teach business English and sometimes to very young students. French companies often hire teachers to train their employees. It is advisable that teachers go to France themselves to give interviews as the employers like to meet the teachers in person. There is usually no illegal hiring as schools are aware of the policies of the government. There is absolutely no demand for English teachers from the month of July to August as there is a summer holiday during these months. The ESL teachers who also have knowledge of information technology and know other languages can get a very high paying job. An accredited TEFL certificate is absolutely necessary with an undergraduate degree to get a job and if one has experience in teaching business English one can expect to get a hefty package.

Another most important thing about France is that there is a special preference for Europeans and for non – European passport holders it is hard to get a job.

France is the land of delectable food, wonderful wine, the Eiffel Tower and great culture. There is a vast difference between the suburbs of France and its main cities. Cities like Paris, Marseilles and Lyon are highly cosmopolitan where as in the small towns the old medieval traditions and customs of France can still be experienced.

The main challenge for the TEFL teachers in France is the problem of pronunciation of the French people. The dialect is very different and it takes time to teach them. Teaching is not just limited to the textbooks but various outdoor activities and interactive sessions are preferred. The English teachers might face some anti- English attitude in the classrooms initially but it has to be tackled diplomatically. In the main cities or town of France where the main demand for English language is English classes are held frequently in the Municipal City Halls or are organized by the Chamber of Commerce. “Telephone Lessons” of English are also gaining popularity day by day especially with people working in the office who are interested in learning English but has no time to attend it.
